Ultherapy explained by Dr. Claire Oliver

Ultherapy explained by Dr. Claire Oliver

Do Wrinkles  REALLY Age Your Face?

A natural part of the ageing process is gravity leaving the skin slacker, jaw lines undefined and brows drooping.  Collagen and elastin production which holds the skin taut and younger looking, shuts down gradually from our late twenty’s.  Everything thing we can do to kick start production is a must. We resort to lotions and potions which promise anti-ageing remedies without appreciating they can’t wake up collagen and elastin. And feel disheartened when our appearance doesn’t change. But there are solutions, revolutionary advances in skin rejuvenation provide a clinically proven treatment to combat ageing skin. Dr Claire Oliver, talk to safety in Safety in Beauty about FDA cleared Ultherapy, and explains how it works.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is the key treatment I recommend to achieve tight and lifted facial and body skin. Using targeted ultrasound energy, it initiates the body’s natural response, known as neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen and elastic. A one off treatment which is clinically proven to lift the treated area gradually. Initial results appear at 3 months with full results at 9 months. Ultherapy is the only FDA cleared skin lifting treatment available in the world with 21+ clinical papers supporting its efficacy and over 620,000 treatments world wide. This treatment provides amazing results.

What areas can it help?

Ultherapy is ideal for ageing skin which has become slack. Typical treatment areas are brows, cheek area, jaw line, neck, décolletage. It can also be used on the arms and over the knees.

What can it not do?

Ultherapy is not a permanent solution to ageing. It is a highly effective treatment to lift the skin. Results can last up to two years. It is, however the only non-surgical alternative to a face, brow, lower face lift which is cleared for the lifting of the skin.

Who is the ideal candidate?

A good Ultherapy candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm. Examples include a lowered eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest. Of course, the best way to find out if you’re and Ultherapy candidate is to consult with a designated Ultherapy clinic or practitioner.

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment involves deposits of focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The ultrasound has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Ultherapy doesn’t involve any creams, fillers or toxins; it just relies on your body’s own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.

Do we need to prepare for Ultherapy?

No preparation is required. If you are feeling anxious your practitioner will provide you with some light pain relief such as paracetemol.

How long does it take?

Treatment for the lower face for e.g. will take approx 60 minutes. A full face lift can take between 1 and half to two hours. Often the treatment is broken down into two sessions to suit the clients diary.  With Ultherapy, there is no downtime. After treatment, you can resume your normal activities immediately without having to follow any special post-treatment measures.

Does it hurt?

As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.

Are there any possible risks and complications?

The skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness, but these are temporary in nature. Other, less common post-treatment effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any medical procedure your practitioner will review your full medical history and review the possibility for other rare effects with you.

Who should carry out a treatment?

How much does it cost?

The cost of an Ultherapy treatment can range depending upon the area being treated and factors such as geographic location and practitioner clinics. Prices range for a lower face lift between £1,850-£2,500 and for a full face lift between £2,750 – £4,000

How many treatments does a person need?

Most clients only need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collage-building process, some patients benefit from additional treatments. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help you keep pace with the body’s natural ageing process.

When will I see the results?

After your Ultherapy® Treatment, you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.

I completed my advanced training in Facial Aesthetics 13 years ago and have practiced full-time as a aesthetics practitioner for many years.

I believe aesthetic treatments should simply enhance the way you look, giving a fresher, well-rested appearance. I emphasise and guide my clients as to the importance of looking natural and not allow someone to ‘over do it’.”
