Skin Peels

What are skin peels?

Skin peels are a form of skin treatment that offer intensive exfoliation. They often use different types of acids, such as glycolic, salicylic or lactic acid to penetrate to different depths of the skin. These help to remove the top layer of the skin, to reveal newer and fresher skin beneath. Skin peels come in different strengths, so your practitioner will help you to decide which one is right for you based on your aims and skin condition.

Who is an ideal candidate for skin peels?

As skin peels can vary greatly, they are ideal for a wide range of ages and conditions. Superficial peels have some tightenting effects and can treat lines, wrinkles, large pores and pigmentation, whilst a medium depth peel can also tackle age spots and acne scars. A deep peel will deal with more severe scarring, uneven pigmentation and sun damage, as well as tightening the skin. Whilst gentle superficial skin peels can be used on a variety of skin types, it is not recommended for anyone with skin type 4 or over to undergo a skin peel.

How do skin peels work?

Skin peels are designed to help dissolve the bonds which are still carrying old, dead skin cells which can be responsible for the skin looking dull and tired. Each skin peel uses a different acid and different strengths to penetrate to different depths according to your needs. It is applied to the skin and allowed time to do its work before it is gently neutralised and washed off.
