Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is platelet rich plasma?

A Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment has also become known as the Vampire Facial, which can make it sound quite scary, but is actually a reference to the blood that is used to create the platelets. The treatment uses plasma which has been extracted from your own blood in order to promote skin regeneration. It can be used to improve the texture of the skin and promote healing, which can then affect signs of ageing and scarring.

Who is an ideal candidate for platelet rich plasma?

This can be a great treatment for anyone who is not comfortable with the idea of other substances being injected into their bodies, either because of allergies or other lifestyle choices. As you are injecting a substance which has come from your own body, it is completely vegan and free from the risk of being rejected. It is often used to improve the texture of the skin, reducing the appearance of dark circles, lines and wrinkles and treating skin conditions such as rosacea or acne.

How does platelet rich plasma work?

At the start of the treatment, a small amount of blood is taken from your arm and put into a centrifuge where it is spun for a few minutes until the red blood cells separate from the plasma. The plasma is full of platelets which can generate growth factors and repair any damage to the skin. This plasma is then injected straight back into the skin using a cannula or needle so that it can start work immediately.
