OPSS urges public and retailers to remove cosmetics containing banned Lilial

The UK’s office for Products Safety and Standards has issued a public reminder to dispose of any cosmetics containing Lilial also known as butlyphenyl methylpropional. The ingredient, previously used in fragrances and beauty products has been banned in Great Britain since December 2022 due to its links to reproductive harm. OPSS has also reminded retailers to ensure no products containing Lilial are available for sale and to recall any such products which have continued to be sold since the ban was imposed.

This reminder is part of the OPSS’s ongoing commitment to ensuring consumer safety within the UK beauty industry.
