What is LED blue light therapy?

LED blue light therapy is a treatment which is typically used to clear the acnes bacteria that sits on the skin. It is a non-invasive, relaxing treatment which uses a large canopy or mask with LED bulbs within it. The treatment does not prevent new acne spots from forming, but it can eliminate the bacteria on the surface of the skin to reduce the inflammation. This is a treatment which works at surface level and so it does not kill the bacteria that is located deep inside the pores.

Who is an ideal candidate for LED blue light therapy?

LED blue light therapy is most commonly used for those who have an issue with acne, however, it is not suitable for those taking some medication which makes their skin sensitive to sunlight, so it is important to talk about your current acne treatment during a consultation. Ble LED light therapy can also reduce activity in the sebaceous glands, causing them to produce less oil creating acne.

How does LED blue light therapy work?

At the start of the treatment, the face is cleaned to ensure it is free of dirt, debris and make-up. You may be offered safety goggles to protect your eyes before the LED device is placed above your face.  You will see the lights but will experience very little sensation whilst they are on. The light that is produced is cool, so the experience is pain free and very comfortable. Due to the relaxing nature of the treatment, it can be used on its own, but is also often incorporated into other facial treatments.

It can be a very relaxing treatment, as it simply requires you to lie back whilst surrounded by the light from the LED bulbs. Red light therapy tricks the body into believing an injury has occurred, causing it to start the natural healing process of stimulating collagen production in order to make the skin look younger. These new skin cells look fresher and are more efficient, causing the skin to look plumper and lines to be reduced.

Who is an ideal candidate for LED red light therapy?

Red LED light therapy is capable of penetrating deeper into the skin that other light due to its longer wavelengths, it is particularly useful for those experiencing the first signs of ageing. It can be used on all skin types and helps the skin to feel firmer and smoother by stimulating the mitochondria in the damaged cells to increase energy production and fore them to start the repair process.

How does LED red light therapy work?

This is a completely painless procedure that is often incorporated into other facial treatments. Once the skin is clean, a mask or canopy containing an array of LED bulbs is placed over the face and switched on. Whilst there is almost no sensation during the treatment, it is necessary to wear goggles to protect your eyes. You are then required to lie still while the mask is in place to allow the light to penetrate the skin.
