Cosmetic Doctor Warns of Dangers of New Filler Guns

Dr Steven Land, owner of the Novellus Aesthetics clinic in Jesmond, Newcastle, is urging people to be vigilant around the use of a new product on the market, ‘no-needle filler guns.’

The product, which claims to ‘non-invasively inject a Patent Pending Hyaluronic Acid Mixture from the comfort of your own home’ into your face, is just the latest addition to an ever-growing, dangerous selection of aesthetic injectables, openly available to the public.

The gun is advertised to be easy to use and can be applied by the public with no medical training required, promoting that you can even administer it to your own face, to fill lips and cheeks, change the shape of the nose and remove wrinkles, all for less than £80.

Dr Land, who splits his time between his aesthetics clinic and his job as a Doctor at the region’s Major Trauma Centre, wants to ensure that people are aware of the dangers of these products and urges everyone to stay away from DIY aesthetics procedures, as the implications can be life changing.

He said;

“This product represents a huge risk to the general public, who would have no idea how to use them safely.

“There have already been reports of these devices causing blockages of arteries, in the hands of those who are apparently trained to use them. So, the dangers of those who have no idea how to use such a product are unthinkable.”

Having recently won a Safety in Beauty Award Highly Commended Certificate for his work on making the public aware of the dangers in the industry, Dr Land is strong advocate for professional, fully trained, safe aesthetic Doctors, Dentists and Nurses, to be the only option for those seeking aesthetic treatments.

The product, which is openly available to buy on sites such as Amazon and Wish, exposes patients to the risk of skin necrosis, infection, blindness and is not medically recommended for purchase or use by the general public.

Dr Steven Land’s recommendations for finding a safe aesthetics practitioner:

  • Only choose a doctor, dentist or nurse.
  • Ask for personal recommendations from friends.
  • Ensure they are registered with GMC or NMC
  • Always go for a consultation.
  • And don’t be afraid to ask about qualifications/insurance/experience.
  • Ask how many procedures they’ve done and how they correct problems.
  • Don’t base your decision on price alone

“I’m passionate about Patient Safety” says Dr Steven Land

After over 20 years of extensive medical training in medicine, surgery, plastic surgery, and emergency medicine I developed an interest in aesthetic medicine and realised this would become my outlet for helping people become the best version of themselves.
With a national reputation for a natural style, using the latest and best techniques as well as creating my own cross tenting lip technique, I have also become known for taking on complex filler repair work culminating in me winning Highly Commended Aesthetic Doctor of the Year 2018 as well as being shortlisted for a number of other awards. My desire to better myself and others sees me continuing to attend as much teaching and training as possible, developing my own teaching courses, being invited to teach for some of the most prestigious aesthetic training companies and becoming a mentor for the Masters in Aesthetic Medicine at Northumbria University, For more information or to contact Dr Steven Land, please head to www.novellusaesthetics.co.uk.
