What are wrinkle relaxing toxins?

Wrinkle relaxing toxins are often referred to as Botox, but this is simply the brand name of one of the products which can be used in the treatment. These are given in the form of injections using botulinum toxins to help relax the muscles in your face. When this happens, lines and wrinkles begin to smooth out and the face can look younger and fresher. They are most typically used to treat horizontal lines in the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet.

Who is an ideal candidate for wrinkle relaxing toxins?

Wrinkle relaxing toxins should not be offered to anyone under the age of 18. It is important to remember that botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine, and as such, it will need to be prescribed by a registered prescriber who has assessed that it is safe to go ahead with the treatment. This could be a nurse prescriber, doctor or dentist but may not be the person who is actually performing the injections.

How do wrinkle relaxing toxins work?

During your treatment, the practitioner will use a fine needle to inject the botulinum toxin into the required areas of your face. This blocks the signals between the nerves and the muscles, meaning that the muscles can no longer contract and become relaxed. Lines and wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contraction of the muscles over time so by relaxing the muscles it is possible to reduce the appearance of the wrinkles that they create and sloe their progression.
