Spotlight on Sciton

An Established Leader in Energy-Based Medical Aesthetics More than 25 years ago, Sciton was founded with a mission: to build exceptional lasers and light sources to improve people’s lives. Along the way, we’ve asked ourselves how we can do more, not just in the industry, but for our customers and our people. We believe that investing in our aesthetic platforms should be profitable for decades. It should leave you feeling good—with a continuous revenue stream and a lucrative ROI for your practice—and make it easy to achieve remarkable results for your patients.

Did you know 96% of all Sciton systems sold in the past 10 years are still in service today? It’s another testament to our commitment to developing efficacious and innovative systems hand-built with exceptional craftsmanship and long-lasting quality.

We’re proud to be a different kind of technology partner. A partner who remains faithful to its core values and innovative spirit—and to its people, culture, and customers—whom we fondly call our Sciton family. As a family, we go the extra mile to help your practice grow while you work hard to resolve your patients’ skin concerns. And that’s not just lip service.

Our Technology

Our flagship system, the JOULE®, exemplifies our approach to producing top expandable platforms that can perform a variety of non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. Built with the highest performance and quality, Sciton’s platforms and award-winning treatment brands have become the gold standard in the laser aesthetics market today.

Our Story

They say if you don’t know your history, you’re like a tree without roots. No foundation to build on, no way to grow. Fortunately, knowing where we came from has helped us become the leader we are today.

Our history is one we’re incredibly proud of. In 1997, laser physicists Dr. Jim Hobart and Dr. Dan Negus founded Sciton. But let’s rewind to the 1960s when the story begins, and Jim establishes the laser company Coherent. He designed its first CO2 laser, the UltraPulse—the gold standard in laser resurfacing for many years—by powering it with a 220-volt outlet from his laundry room! That innovative spirit is still a core value at Sciton today. Fast forward to 1996, when Jim makes the difficult decision to retire from Coherent. Regarded as one of the most successful laser companies in the world at that time, Coherent’s aesthetic division had grown immensely and was sold off. It had become a large, publicly traded corporation, forsaking quality for Wall Street returns. But Jim didn’t believe in cutting corners.

Notorious for stopping production when the quality wasn’t right—he ultimately resigned. Luckily, retirement wasn’t for him. In 1997, Jim brought 15 key individuals from Coherent, including the head of research and development, Dan Negus, to create Sciton. Since its founding, Sciton’s policy has been “Do the Right Thing.”

Sciton operates on a worldwide basis with direct sales offices in the United States, Japan, Australia, France and the United Kingdom, and distributor partners in more than 45 countries. Sciton is ISO 13485 certified and follows strict FDA guidelines.
